Chapter 172 - 171: Caught and Sold! (2nd Update)

Chapter 172: Chapter 171: Caught and Sold! (2nd Update)

The Magic Thief Yomi was only level fourteen, and any random skill from an arbitrary player could instantly kill her; her little dagger could probably not even penetrate that player’s defense.

What really bothered the player was… the possibility that their loud cries could attract other, truly powerful Magic Thieves.

This was the standard by which the player weighed whether to kill these two Magic Thief sisters or spare their lives.

But when the player glanced at the little lolita with a low ponytail in front of them, she was tightly pursing her pale lips, struggling to suppress her fear as she slowly approached the player, trying to rescue her sister from the clutches of this villain.

Seeing this, even if the little lolita was just a model, a cluster of data, the player couldn’t bring themselves to do it… and the most important thing was that she wasn’t just a cluster of data.

What to do? The player’s gaze shifted to the sister on the ground, whose mouth they covered, and the sister’s eyes were already pleading. She was begging the player not to hurt her younger sister.

‘Streamer, lolitas are a rare resource in the world! You can’t kill them.’

‘Jiang Qiao, I have a suggestion, why not just capture those lolitas and bring them back?’

Capture them and bring them back! Easy to say… Wait, the player seemed to have a way to do that? But what’s the use of bringing them back? Lolitas can’t be sold for money!

While the player was hesitating, the onlookers from Jiang Qiao couldn’t stand it anymore and directly spent fifteen Creation Points to draft a new quest that they threw at the player.

‘Professional Collection Quest – Chapter of Compassion, Quest Description: You have already collected the Chapter of Selflessness and the Chapter of Dedication from the Newborn Hymn. A new test has come upon you, righteous preacher of the gospel… Before you are Crystal Disease Infected who may potentially bring this world to ruin, but they are not as evil as described by the people. What choice will you make? Quest Objective: ? Quest Reward: Newborn Hymn – Chapter of Compassion.’

What does question mark for the quest objective mean? The player had seen quests with a question mark for the reward, but never one with a question mark for the objective.

However, a Professional Collection Quest is also a means to enhance one’s power. For every quest completed, the players’ mastery of skills would receive minor improvements, such as the range of a skill or some of its additional effects.

The Chapter of Compassion enhanced two minor skills and one major skill, the latter being an improvement to the player’s level forty-five skill, Newborn Hymn. It increased the casting range from a radius of three meters to five meters and added a shield effect based on five percent of the player’s maximum HP.

The Newborn Hymn originally had the effect of healing HP while removing all negative effects on teammates within range, making it a pretty decent group healing skill.

Triggering a Professional Collection Quest isn’t too hard or too easy, especially in the Otherworld maps, and now high-end players have mostly completed at least three of these quest elements.

When Jiang Qiao designed these collection quests, the intent was to harness the spirits’ innate ability to ‘strip and utilize the powers of all things,’ a trait also of the Devouring God.

After players killed monsters in the Otherworld, most of the monsters would transform into sustenance for Hai Lan, with a small portion being absorbed by the players themselves. Apart from the standard experience gains, there also were various oddities absorbed, such as the monsters’ inner energy and their soul power.

That’s why Biland Island is an ideal place to trigger Professional Collection Quests.

All that being said… the player definitely wanted to get their hands on this Chapter of Compassion!

The way to get it was… to tie up the two sisters.

“Sister!”

Yomi saw the player take out a long cloth, intending to tie up her sister Weiser’s mouth, and thought the player was trying to strangle her sister.

“Don’t move, Yomi!” Weiser suddenly shouted at her own sister at that moment.

She realized from the very first exchange… she was absolutely no match for the player. This wasn’t something resistance could compensate for; it was a real, qualitative difference.

“Why?” Yomi didn’t understand, but she still listened to her sister and stayed where she was.

“Poor children, I won’t hurt you.”

At this moment, Extra Cream, No Sugar initiated her charlatan mode, removing the hood she wore for disguise and revealing her true appearance.

When creating her character in the game, Extra Cream, No Sugar paid particular attention to crafting someone with a warm and approachable presence, aiming for maximum affinity. Thus, when she took off her hood, what appeared was a kind and beautiful older sister with black hair.

Then, adding the Holy Light special effect that her Evangelist class naturally possessed…

“But you’re trying to steal our potatoes!” Yomi yelled at Extra Cream, No Sugar.

“…”

Extra Cream, No Sugar struggled to maintain her warm and benevolent expression, but she still tried her best to uphold her noble Evangelist image.

“I am here to save you. Follow my words, and you will no longer suffer,” Extra Cream, No Sugar said.

“Potato thief! Give back the potatoes and my sister!” Yomi fearlessly continued to bicker with Extra Cream, No Sugar.

At this point, her sister Weiser showed signs of being on the verge of tears. She kept shaking her head at Yomi, simultaneously urging her to flee the premises quickly.

“I will give you a better environment.”

Unable to bear Yomi’s yelling, Extra Cream, No Sugar knew such noise could attract other Magic Thieves if it continued.

So, Extra Cream, No Sugar took out a special item named Intrusion Crystal.

All NPCs in the Otherworld are treated as items. Don’t ask how Extra Cream, No Sugar knew this detail; she wasn’t planning to stuff the two sisters into her backpack. Thus, she grabbed Weiser, who was tied up, with one hand while reaching for Yomi with the other, she pulled out another piece of Special Equipment from her bag.

The Intrusion Crystal, a Special Equipment item, was something Extra Cream, No Sugar obtained in the Abyss Hunt during the War of Divinity. She listed it on auction number 4396, but when no one bought it, it finally came in handy.

Its function was to start a timer for returning to the city even while in combat, and the Intrusion Crystal consisted of two pieces: one for teleporting back to the city, and the other for returning to the original location.

Extra Cream, No Sugar tossed one of the crystals into a corner of the cupboard and then grabbed Yomi, who was attempting to stab her with a dagger.

The moment Extra Cream, No Sugar seized the two, the Intrusion Crystal in her hand successfully completed its countdown. The timer, lasting a full twenty seconds, highlighted how situational the crystal was on the battlefield.

Extra Cream, No Sugar had set her home point inside her own established stronghold, as the real Lionheart City wouldn’t allow objects with traces of the Otherworld to be brought back without first being purified.

Weiser and Yomi, the two sisters, also required purification, but there were no issues in sending them to the stronghold on Biland Island.

When the light from the Intrusion Crystal flashed, the silhouettes of all three vanished from the spot…

“Where is this place?” After the light faded, Weiser opened her eyes to breathe in the long-lost fresh air mixed with the scent of the sea.

The only thing one could smell in the Magic Thieves’ city was the air mixed with sulfur, which was extremely noxious.

“Where your new life begins, theoretically speaking,” said Extra Cream, No Sugar, noticing that the crimson text above the heads of Yomi and Weiser had turned into neutral yellow after teleporting to the stronghold.

Extra Cream, No Sugar knew about the talent market system in the game, where some wealthy players spent considerable amounts of money to draw SR or even SSR characters. Could she possibly throw these two sisters into the talent market?
